Power with Self-Control

So be careful how you live. Don’t live like fools, but like those who are wise. Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. Don’t act thoughtlessly, but understand what the Lord wants you to do. —Proverbs 5:15-17 NLT

Many people desire certain things and when it seems as though it is not coming, especially within an expected timeframe, they try to force things into existence and do things within their power to play the role of a “god.” It is great to have faith; especially faith that prompts us to action. However, a Believer’s prayer should be for the things they attract to themselves to, not only be in line with the word of God, but also in line with God’s perfect plan for their lives.

Even Jesus found Himself having desires for His life that were contrary to the Father’s plan. At one point, He prayed in Luke 22:42 saying, “Father, if you are willing, please take this cup of suffering away from me. Yet I want your will to be done, not mine.” It is important for us to seek God’s will in place of our own. This is not because God desires us to suffer, but because even during the lowest valleys of our journeys, God is working out a perfect plan for us that is ultimately working everything together for our good.

Let us ask ourselves today: “Are our prayers reflections of us placing our comfort over the purposes we were created for?” Jesus stated in Matthew 26:53-54: “Don’t you realize that I could ask my Father for thousands of angels to protect us, and he would send them instantly? But if I did, how would the Scriptures be fulfilled that describe what must happen now?” We may have God-given power and authority to bring any fate to fruition. However, let us always seek to have prayers and deeds that align with what God desires for us.
