A Fresh Start
The very next day they began to eat unleavened bread and roasted grain harvested from the land. No manna appeared on the day they first ate from the crops of the land, and it was never seen again. So from that time on the Israelites ate from the crops of Canaan.
—Joshua 5:11-12 NLT
Many people get stuck in this world because they try to give their seasonal provision a lifetime sentence. If you ever get to a place where you run out of a supply of provision that you have once depended on, it is probably because that provision is not needed for the next phase(s) of your life. People tend to pray for God to do new things for them. Then, many times when old things begin to get cleared away, they do not seem to like it. It goes without say that old systems need to get cleared away in order to make room for new things to be established.
In the reference verses above, the children of Israel did not panic just because the manna they had grown accustomed to had seized. They did not complain as if they needed this manna that was “never seen again.” They were too busy eating the “unleavened bread and roasted grain” harvested from their new land. Remember that to “harvest” something means to gather the increase brought forth from seeds that have been sown. The children of Israel needed not to focus on manna when they were creating new opportunities for themselves.
When a person has the mentality and perspective to see possibilities, then opportunities to harvest great provision can always be found during new seasons of their life. Proverbs 10:4 reminds us that “hard workers get rich!” With this in mind, one should never be afraid to role up one’s sleeves for a little bit of hard work that comes from sowing and harvesting. Just remember that, as grateful as we should be for “manna” (metaphorically speaking), we were not intended to survive on “manna” for the entirety of our lives.
Lots of Love, XO
